I have had ongoing issues with my teeth since I was a child. I have a cleft palate and have had to wear plates for as long as I can remember. In the last year I’ve had more than 10 teeth be removed, and I am in a lot of pain due to the movement of my teeth.
I have been attending a government dental clinic in Perth that have told me, despite the advice of numerous doctors I have seen over the years, that my teeth aren’t moving. They have also told me that moving forward I will not be able to receive government assistance for paying for the dentures required when I lose teeth, and I will have to pay for them myself. This is something I simply can’t afford to do, given the rate at which I am losing teeth.
I contacted Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital ENT Clinic, who I saw a number of years ago and who have my records, and they advised that I contact Royal Perth Hospital’s Maxillofacial Service for assistance. I did this to be told I need to get a referral, and then they will be able to see me.
I attended my GP and got the referral required. I sent this through to RPH and contacted them to ask if they had received it. They told me that it had not come through. After some time, I contacted them again to ask if it had come through, and this time it had, however they advised that I would not be able to see a specialist, despite having the referral. I questioned the staff I was speaking to as to why this was, and they would not give me a reason. They then hung up on me.
I am in excruciating pain and don’t know where to turn. It seems as though no one is willing to help.
"In pain with no help in sight"
