"Dental Care"

About: Westmead Hospital

(as the patient),

I needed IV sedation due to a gagging problem. I waited three years for a dental consultation at Westmead Hospital. They took all my details, then told me that because I was a senior, I had to apply upstairs at the Special Care Unit. Instead of handing my file to the SCU upstairs, it seems they made my file disappear. I waited six months for instructions and did not hear from them. I phoned the SCU and asked if they had my file and they told me,no and placed me on their list to wait for a consultation with the SCU. One year later I received a letter from SCU with a date for a consultation which I attended and advised that as I was in excellent health, I could have the IV service downstairs. Months later I phoned and asked the SCU what was happening, and was told that I was on the list. I emailed them re. which list, upstairs or downstairs? Still waiting. Surely pensioners who have their own teeth and on a full pension should be covered by medicare. Most people die before they reach pension age and not many live to be eighty. How expensive can it be? Or, we may as well commit suicide at my age if Australia can't afford us after working forty years in full time work. Better than feeling worthless.
