"Stay in Wonthaggi Hospital"

About: Wonthaggi Hospital / Emergency Department

(as the patient),

Recently I attended the Emergency Department at Wonthaggi Hospital. From the time I arrived we were met with kindness and efficiency.

I had fallen down the stairs at home and thought the pain would go away. We went to the hospital six hours later to find I had a suspected fractured ankle - later confirmed.

From the triage nurse, x-ray person, doctor and nurses everyone was professional, but personal and friendly. All procedures were explained to myself and my husband.

I had to be admitted and this was done quickly and calmly.

My stay in Wonthaggi was for three nights and if hospital stays can be pleasant, this was. The nursing staff were exemplary, domestic staff friendly and helpful, doctors who explained everything clearly and were approachable.

It also helped that I was in a ward with three other patients who were friendly.

My transition to home was guided above and beyond by Nakieta, Dahra and another young lady whose name I cannot remember.

At times you hear negative comments about the health system and also since moving to Phillip Island, about Wonthaggi Hospital. I just wanted to thank you all for your kindness, care, professional manner and  humour (much appreciated).

Once again my thanks and appreciation.

Hello With thanks and appreciation. This is truly lovely feedback about our service and I know that the staff will be really pleased to read your comments. Thank you so much for taking the time to tell us about your experience. We don't always get things right and it is those rare occurrences that create a poor reputation; but it is my view that Bass Coast Health staff come to work to do the right thing by their community and their patients and the majority of the time, they do that extremely well. I agree that hospital stays aren't necessarily pleasant and our hospital is certainly a little aged and tired, but I am so pleased that you found us to be professional and caring. I hope your ankle is recovering well and I'm sure that our staff told you that stairs (and getting up on ladders) are very hazardous - so take it easy with the stairs. Thanks again for your lovely feedback. Kind Regards, Jan
