"Allergies overlooked by staff"

About: St John of God Murdoch Hospital

(as the patient),

My recent hospital stay in St John of God Murdoch Hospital was where this happened. My red wristband informs staff of my allergies, on one occasion this wasn't checked. After having a cardiac angiogram the tube was removed, and because of this I didn't realise as you have to lay flat for several hours that the nurse (which wasn't mine as I had a male nurse) had used a Tegaderm patch on my groin. On arriving home the same day it started to itch. If this was left on all night I would have been in a lot of trouble with blisters and rash, after having a gynecological operation the day before.

As far as the nursing staff checking, this was always done very carefully.

I find the nursing staff are generally on top of things and are very helpful and caring.
