"My wife in Margaret River Hospital"

About: Margaret River Hospital

(as a carer),

My wife is an amputee in very poor health. There have been several occasions when she has been close to death - not in the Margaret River Hospital. With much of her time sitting in a wheelchair and bed she has a severe bedsore and needs to be lying on one side to aid healing. She has limited eyesight and cannot read, but can watch TV.  Unfortunately her TV does not work. Everyone has tried to resolve the problem. She even became a private patient to be able to move to a room with a working TV, but that room was needed for a more serious patient. Nurses tell me this problem has been going on for weeks. My wife becomes agitated because she is confined - most of the time - to bed, uncomfortable and anxious.

Dear TV repair,

Thank you for conveying your wife’s experience at Margaret River Hospital.

We acknowledge that the TV in your wife’s room is not fully functional and has been scheduled to be repaired for a number of weeks.

Due to high occupancy of that room, the repairs have unfortunately been delayed. When the repair company attended they could not work on the unit due to infection control restrictions. The repair has been rescheduled however and we do not anticipate further delays.

In regards to your wife being a private patient, we do try to allocate a private room, however at times demand on the hospital and patient acuity means this is not always possible.

We are happy to report that, although it is not a private room, your wife has been relocated to a bed with a working TV.

We will ensure our high level of care of your wife in Margaret River and work with you both to support her discharge home.

Thanks once again for your feedback.
