"Bad experience in the emergency department"

About: Sydney / Sydney Eye Hospital / Emergency Department

(as the patient),

I had a very bad experience in Sydney Hospital Emergency Department. I waited here overnight, all other people came and left. I got my doctor's comment to go to the hospital 'asap' regarding serious eye issue! In my opinion even just common sense will tell you, it is a big issue! No one took care of me at all during 7 hours! It is called emergency! Interesting! What was worse was I felt so cold, and asked for one cup of hot water. They said no, hot water only for patients with medicine, not allowed for others, even patients without medicine. I am not sure if what happened to me was because my skin is not white. But if so, it would be the worst part of this case. Even after all that, I was still waiting, and from what I could see I was the only one in the waiting room for more than an hour. God bless me.

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience at Sydney Hospital Emergency Department. I would like to unreservedly apologise for what has obviously been a poor experience for you and not a level of service that we like to provide at this hospital. It is expected that all patients, family and carers are treated equally. Often waiting times in the emergency department are unavoidable due to the amounts and differing illness of other patients. Your feedback is valuable and will be shared to all the staff in the department for staff.

I hope your eye is improving.
