"Diabetes Clinic"

About: Child and Adolescent Health Service

(as a parent/guardian),

My child is due to see the Diabetes Clinic for a weekly appointment from now on. The appointment was booked in for 9am. I called up to explain that I cannot attend clinic at that time.

As I run my own family daycare I have before school care children and young children for childcare which attend. It's not so easy for me to close for the day as it affects 4 other families. So I would prefer an appointment around 11am (during school hours).

They cancelled that booking as I said I couldn't make the 9am time and someone was supposed to call me back. They never did so I called a fortnight later and they said they have booked it in still for 9am but 3 months later.

I am not impressed that my child will not go to the clinic for 8 months this means.

I am upset they cannot book in for a different time other than 9am. When I called back they said there is nothing they can do about it.

Dear Unaccommodating

I’m sorry to hear about your recent experience with the Diabetes Outpatient Clinic.

The outpatient clinics generally try to accommodate families’ needs and provide flexibility according to their requirements. In the Diabetes Clinic, the team tries to make sure that patients and their families are reviewed by the same clinicians and in matched age groups.

If you could contact the clinic on 6456 1111 and ask to speak with the Clinical Nurse Consultant for Diabetes and Endocrinology, we can assist in finding a suitable solution for you and your child.

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience. PMH relies on honest feedback such as yours to help us make improvements for our patients and their families.

With my best wishes for your child.

Dr Victor Cheng
Executive Director
Princess Margaret Hospital for Children
