After 10 years seeing a private specialist I felt I needed more input and in 2015 asked my GP for a referral into the public system. I saw an ENT specialist at Fiona Stanley Hospital, Prof Gunesh, who applied for me to have a treatment that is standard in the US and UK for the type and growth of tumours I have. IPA was granted and I have been on Avastin for 1 year now and my tumours have decreased in size and volume and are stable. I have my treatment at the Cancer Centre at FSH and because I am a country patient, PATS fly me to Perth and transport is provided by the FSH volunteer patient transport team who get me to and from the hospital. I have the greatest respect and gratitude for all who are involved in my treatment and care - especially the wonderful staff in the Cancer Centre. I communicate online with other people with NF2 and I recognize that our health system in Australia, while not perfect, is up there with the best.
