"I thought nurses should be compassionate and nice..."

About: Sydney / Sydney Eye Hospital

(as a relative),

To make it short. I observed this nurse - in my opinion I would not even want to call her a nurse. She was nursing my father and I thought how rushed she was, how rude and impatient. I felt she was not only rude to patients, but to staff. Heard conversation between her and the other nurse. I thought she was so impatient and rude! Constant rushing and I felt ignorant to patients. My dad is not the only one who made those comments, the other patients in the room seemed to not be happy with her.

I don't even understand why a nurse like that works in your hospital. In my opinion she shouldn't even be a nurse.

Please let me know how can I take this further.

Dear Family concerns,

I am very disappointed to hear about your father’s experience at Sydney Hospital/Sydney Eye Hospital, and offer my sincere apologies for your experience.

We expect our nursing staff to act with compassion and provide high quality person-cantered care at all times.

I would encourage you to make contact with me by email to SESLHD-SSEHExecutiveServices@health.nsw.gov.au, or for you to make contact with the Nursing Unit Manager of the ward next time you are visiting your father, so we can gain a better understanding of your concerns and then can give feedback to the nurse involved.

Thank you for taking the time to provide your story, I look forward to hearing from you.

Kind regards,

Jennie Barry.
