Recently my teenager injured their thumb playing sport at school. I was called by the school to tell me my teenager was at hospital and to meet them there. I got told to take my child to Manjimup Hospital for an x-ray which is one hour away. But at the time having turbo problems with my car, it took me one and a half hours to get there. When we got there I had no paperwork to give them, as I wasn’t given any so I had to see another doctor and go through it all again. The staff there seemed puzzled why, at that time we got sent all the way there for an x-ray. We were there for 2 hours and I didn’t arrive home until after 7 pm, in the dark to my other 2 children.
I was disappointed that no local doctor requested to see my child after their trauma.
As we were leaving another child from school came in with an injury and also got sent to Manjimup. It turns out my child's finger was just bruised and no breaks or dislocation. It would be nice to have x-ray services more attainable for us in Boyup Brook or for Bridgetown x-ray hours to be open all hours that school is. This would not only benefit Boyup but also surrounding areas including Bridgetown.
I feel it could have been handled more professionally. I was the only parent home at the time, so a closer service would have got me home to my other kids earlier and if my child had been seen by a doctor they may have known that an x-ray could have waited until next day.
