I could not attend my scheduled renal outpatients clinic earlier this year as I was going to be out of the country. I rang the clinic and informed them of this.
I received a letter from outpatients informing me that I had being removed off the appointment list, because I did not attend an appointment my previous appointment that was booked.
I had received no notification of this appt., that is no letter or SMS reminder, so was unaware that I had an appt. to attend. It was a bit hard to attend when you aren't notified of the appointment.
I phoned outpatients after receiving a letter informing me that my name would be removed from the appt. system. I spoke to clinics and was informed that this had been an issue, that is people not receiving a letter. I was then transferred to renal clinic and spoke to a staff member who informed me, because I had failed to attend 2 appt's my name would be removed from the appt. system. To be re-activated I would need another referral from my GP. I had in place a perpetual referral.
I felt this staff member did not listen to me, as they would not accept that I had called and said I would not be attending the appt. I referred to initially, therefore technically I had only missed one.
It is hard to attend appt's without receiving a notification.
As a renal transplantee I take my appt's seriously and it is due to good regular management by medical staff and myself that I have retained this donated organ after some 28 years.
