"Disabled Parking"

About: Allied Health (Bass Coast Health)

(as the patient),

I attend Allied Health regularly in Wonthaggi. The disabled parking is not convenient. I have breathing difficulties and the disabled parking is down hill. Could the parking or part of the parking spaces opposite Allied Health be for disabled parking please? Thank you.

Dear mywish,

Thanks for your very constructive feedback. I have asked our Director of Support Services to review the parking arrangements to see what we can do. I will get back to you.

Kind Regards,

Jan

Dear mywish,

I am sorry that it has taken me a little while to get back to you. I have reviewed the car parking area with some of the management team. As you know, it is not an easy site given all the slopes and undulations.

We can't mark the car parking bays adjacent to allied health as Disabled parking bays due to the fact that the ground there is not flat. Disabled parking bays must be constructed on a flat surface to comply with Australian Standards. We could allocate some of the spaces and call them client only spaces, and remark them to make them a bit wider, but we can't label them as Disabled otherwise we would not be compliant. The current disabled areas are on a flat surface, but we agree they are also not ideal because you either have to walk up a slope, or down a slope to get to them.

The ideal solution is that people get dropped off at the front door but we also know that isn't possible if people are driving themselves. So our final thought is that we will engage some traffic expertise to look at whether we can create some Disabled parks to the rear of the Allied Health building where the PAG bus parks - this will take us a few weeks to look into.

I would be keen to meet with you and show you what I have talked to you about in this email and see if there are other solutions we may be able to find for you. I wonder if you would mind calling me on 0472846355 so that we can look at the options together.

Thanks again for raising this with us - it has prompted us to look outside the square to try to find a short term solution. Of course in the longer term, our building works will provide good disabled access at the front of the site - sadly that's still a couple of years away.

Kind Regards,

Jan
