"Baby pneumonia"

About: Box Hill Hospital / Emergency Department

(as a carer),

We went to the hospital late one evening recently, as our baby got high fever and started vomiting (fever had lasted for 10 days). They just seemed to say sorry bad luck, it’s a virus. Three nights later we went to Monash Hospital and they discovered our baby got a nasty pneumonia - both lungs with fluid, plus fluid in the chest close to the heart. How the doctors of Box Hill Hospital missed that? My baby ended up 5 days hospitalized. My baby is still sick, but is recovering well.

Dear airns43,

I was very concerned to read the story of your recent experience at Box Hill Hospital with your sick baby.

We take your concerns very seriously. In order for us to investigate what was happening with the care of your baby, I ask if you could make contact with the Eastern Health Centre for Patient Experience either via email at feedback@easternhealth.org.au or via telephone on 1800 EASTERN.

I am sorry that in this instance we have not provided the high standard of care that our staff pride themselves on and once again, encourage you to make contact.

Thank you for sharing your story on Patient Opinion. Your feedback enables us to review and improve the care that we provide.

Kind regards,

David
