"My RPH experience"

About: Royal Perth Hospital / Elective & Emergency Orthopaedic Surgery & Bone Tissue Bank Royal Perth Hospital / Goderich Street Outpatients Clinic

(as the patient),

I broke my wrist earlier this year and went to the ER @ RPH (Royal Perth Hospital) I spent over 6 hours there and received excellent treatment. I had a procedure called a bier block to reset the wrist in place. The staff made sure I was provided with all the information prior to the procedure. Although I would say, in retrospect I wouldn't have had it had I known the pain I'd experience during the procedure. But I repeat that the staff were great and I cannot speak highly enough of their support during the process.

I was regularly seen over the rehabilitation period and always treated with respect and thoughtfulness. Even though the outpatient clinic was extremely busy I was surprised with how well it functioned.

I started physio a couple of months later and was recently discharged by the department and during that time always felt that they cared about my progress in rehabilitation.

This was my first experience with the public health system and although I was filled with trepidation at the start by the end, was completely convinced that although it is stretched to the max, everyone I came in contact with were doing there best for me! This included the volunteers helping throughout the hospital.

Dear Public Health Experience,

Thank you for taking the time to share your journey with us. I’m very happy to hear of your experience and the support and care you received throughout your journey from the urgent care through to rehabilitation and recovery. I hope that your injury is, if not completely healed, on the way to it.

As you mention, the public health system can be very busy and at times stretched. We are very fortunate to have the wonderful staff and volunteers that we do, who work tirelessly and go above and beyond to deliver the best possible care. I will ensure that your feedback is passed along.

Best wishes

Dr Lesley Bennett
