"Presentation at Emergency - Excellent"

About: Bass Coast Health Wonthaggi Hospital / Emergency Department

(as a staff member posting for a patient/service user),

Cannot thank Bass Coast Health enough for the treatment my husband received when he experienced a stroke. The moment my husband approached the window at Emergency and said he had pins and needles in his arm, Annie was off her chair and got the needs for my husband rolling.   Next into Triage where Belinda got all of his information and within minutes he was in an emergency bed. Nurse Catherine set him up with a ECG machine where Dr Alan was overseeing, gathering all information so he could give my husband the correct treatment. I gave the doctor the details including the medications and within minute Dr Alan was on the phone with a neurologist. After obtaining the information from the ECG, my husband was on his way with Mark to have a CT Scan. The efficiency of the way the doctor and emergency team communicated not just us, but all the patients in their care is so admirable. Later on in the evening I was talking with Annie and it was 16 minutes from my husbands arrival to Emergency, from being monitored on an ECG. Absolutely fabulous care! My husband was in hospital, on a bed within half an hour of him feeling pins and needles in his arm. Dr Alan said there is a four hour window between recovery difference. It is now 2 days on and my husband is feeling a lot better already. Thank you again for the exceptional treatment he was given. He is very lucky.

Dear Quaqz73, Thank you so much for taking the time to provide us with your feedback. You have beautifully summed up how important it is that healthcare workers respond as a team in such time critical circumstances. I can only imagine how worried you must have been and I am so pleased that the ED team were able to be so reassuring. We have superb staff at BCH that are very well supported through the Victorian Stroke Tele health program run from the Florey Institute. This partnership has ensured we can provide contemporary and timely care to patients with neurological symptoms. I am so pleased that Wonthaggi Hospital is able to now provide this service and I am so pleased that your husband is doing so well. Best wishes for his full recovery. Kind Regards, Jan.
