Things to do

Things to do

I am a young single mother, who this time 6 months ago was struggling with a Heroin addiction that was damaging my life and deteriorating me mentally and physically & everything else around me. I had become isolated and depressed and was making bad choices because of my addiction and the people I chose to have around me which led me to have a court case with a potential outcome of prison and even had my toddler taken away from me. I was in severe financial debt and at risk of losing my tenancy. Life had become almost meaningless to me, but I decided to take the first step to get help and detox with Biala Community Health Centre at Roma St and was referred to do the 6 week Springboard Day Program and have been so thankful for it since! Springboard helped change my life around, I am now sober and have my daughter back! Springboard taught me great tools to cope with relapse and help me along my recovery. The program helped me grow as a person, I gained confidence again and make much better life choices. At the start I did have anxiety that it would be like other AOD (addiction and other drugs) services and that the teachers  wouldn't really know what it's really like. But the teachers were great, and real people who had real problems like ours! I am more aware of my values and goals and obtained skills to help me get there. It does feel uncomfortable at the beginning and gets hard when you're working through the stages of dealing with your use, but I haven't found any other program that works like this one. This program looks at not only your drug addiction, but at all aspects of your life, so you truly can improve your life and say goodbye to addiction.  Push through the tough bits and the outcome will be worth it. Words really can't explain how great and important this program is to people suffering mentally taking the next step with their addiction and wanting to improve their life. I know you think you can't, but with these teachers Jess and Daniel and the Springboard Program you can!  I now participate in groups, volunteer with AOD committee, wiser relationship choices, grown physically and mentally and able to achieve goals and progress. I love TED talks and honestly have re-done some of the workbooks because it just continues to help! This was a really vital part in my recovery and gave me tools I use in my everyday life :)
