"The calibre of care at Kerang"

About: Kerang Hospital

(as a relative),

Dear Sir / Madam

I write this letter to tell you of the care my husband and I received earlier this year, at Kerang Hospital.

The nurses - Jill, Irene, Vinnie, Zoe, Selina and Julie Ann - (these are the nurses who were mainly rostered on in the acute rooms). They were exemplary in their nursing care. These nurses cannot be faulted in any way - indeed, the teamwork and care we were given could not be improved upon in any way. Noeline in welfare is another lady who moves heaven and earth for her patients. There were other nurses and staff who cared for us and they also were of the highest calibre in nursing, but names escape me at this time.

The nurses were diligent regarding medication and times. The teamwork and sense of humour was superb - and this was most appreciated. On the change of staff, the incoming nurses always checked if there was anything they could do or get for the comfort of their patients. They were also discreet and mindful that patients were resting. It would be nice to have major equipment in house, e.g. bone density and MRI machines etc., instead of travelling to Bendigo. But I daresay these are on the wish list for Kerang Hospital.

Also, the Kitchen Staff were most helpful - nothing was too much trouble. The meals were of a high standard and beautifully presented. Again, these ladies were helpful and observant of our needs.

I hope the above gives you an insight into Kerang Hospital care - I cannot speak highly enough both of the staff at all levels - and the doctors, Dr Harpreet and Dr Sam.

Yours faithfully,

Calibre of care

Dear Calibre of care,

What a lovely story, thank you so much for taking the time to describe your experience. I am most delighted with some of the aspects that you explain- that the staff had a sense of humour, that they were discreet, that they were checking on you and that they were diligent regarding medications. These things that you have described are for me examples of our values (caring, accountability, respect and excellence).

The teams and staff will have your story shared with them, and thanked.

Alas, for the other point you mention, whilst we can do some tests here at Kerang I do not know that we will ever have the population or demand to be equipped with some of the more complex health care equipment, and I honestly feel very pleased that Swan Hill is only a short drive to the north, and Bendigo an hour and a half to the south for these other services to be accessed. We are fortunate to have these things relatively (in rural Australian terms that is) "close".

Again, thank you for your story.

Kind regards

Chloe
