"Breastfeeding Advice"

About: GPs in the Bowman Electoral District

(as the patient),

Recently I’ve been having trouble breastfeeding my baby. My baby has a bottle preference and my supply through the day decreased dramatically. I went to a bulk billed doctor because after going cold turkey with the bottle my baby's fontanel was sunken and their urine was dark. The doctor suggested I just give up breastfeeding, that it was no longer more beneficial than formula and gave me no information about my baby's dehydration other than to just top up with formula. It was only later in the Facebook group “The Australian Breastfeeding Project”, that I was made aware that a sunken fontanel is a very late sign of dehydration. I’m disappointed the doctor wouldn't support the WHO (World Health Organisation) guidelines of breastfeeding and made me feel as though I’m silly for wanting to continue.
