"Excellent treatment from every angle."

About: Kerang Hospital

(as the patient),

I have been attending oncology at Kerang Hospital for a few months. The staff are outstanding. They have provided me with all the information I need (including a booklet) regarding the medication I'm having and all the side effects. Thankfully I haven't had any side effects. Anything I want to know they tell me. Everything is do convenient. I can have blood tests at the hospital, an oncologist travels from Bendigo every week to see patients. I only need to see the oncologist every fortnight, but if anything is picked up in my blood tests, a doctor sees me straight away. The doctors, nurses and receptionists are all lovely. I have the new immunotherapy for my cancer and they even give me a cup of tea while I having it. Everything is so convenient and the treatment is excellent from every angle.

Dear Every angle,

Having treatment for cancer and the tests and procedures that go along with it can be a very difficult and confusing health care to receive, and the nurses and specialists have to know exactly what to educate the patients about to cover all eventualities. Sometimes this is about side effects of medications, and sometimes it is about how to get your tests done, and in what order, or what appointments you need to go to in what order.

Immunotherapy is a new form of cancer treatment that some people are able to receive. It still requires a lot of information and education for the patients, and still has some side effects that you need to know about.

We are very lucky to have a wonderful team of volunteers who help in our oncology service and make cups of tea for the patients and relatives, and generally help keep our oncology area refreshed with resources and reading equipment and booklets, and offer a helping hand. We are appreciative of all their efforts, and it lets the nurses take the time with the patients without having to worry about making cuppas for people needing the care. I am so pleased that you found having a cup of tea during your treatment beneficial, and I will pass on this comment to the volunteer group!

Everyone who has had cancer has their own story to tell, and have had a unique journey. Thank you for sharing yours. I will pass on your story to both the Kerang Oncology team, and the Bendigo visiting oncology team, so they can be aware of your story and how appreciated their services are.

I hope your journey continues to be a positive one.

Kind Regards

Chloe
