On the advice of my GP I went onto the government website https://healthywa.wa.gov.au/ED-activity-now to check the waiting times at all the casualties around Perth & Midland came up the fastest. On a positive note, yes I was seen within 30 minutes, however was bitterly disappointed with their care. I had a foot the size of a soccer ball, clearly infected, cellulitis, unresponsive to antibiotics & in desperate need of surgery. I was told by the RMO (Resident Medical Officer) that they had no plastic or orthopedic surgeons there & that I'd have to go to Charlies (Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital) outpatients.
Ten days & pain scores of nine later, I went to Charlies who took one look at it & immediately admitted me for emergency surgery & high dose IV antibiotics. I think this is incredibly shameful and I believe I could have got septicemia & died. In my opinion, Midland not to have either plastic or especially orthopedic surgeons is simply ridiculous & I think they shouldn't bother having a casualty if they can't adequately treat their patients.
