"Treatment at the adult mental health facility"

My time was quite horrific being a young female adult going into what felt like such a caged and scary environment. I was highly sick and had to be kept in the isolated unit for some time. The confined area made me feel very unsafe, especially when I was surrounded by two middle aged aggressive and unpredictable  men. The staff would look through the window and wouldn’t bother coming in to check on me. I would explain through the glass how scared I was of being there and they would simply reassure me nothing was going to happen and that they were always looking. Meanwhile two grown men could have easily lashed out at any second. I’m actually appalled by the staff who thought throwing me in that situation would be beneficial. I understand there is limited resources or funding, but to treat someone like an animal is not on. I was traumatised and any other sane person would have been too. It didn’t help I had acute psychosis and was already plagued by my mind. Even in the main wards I couldn’t freely go out for a walk on the grounds. Instead I felt caged up. The small outside area was tiny. It all felt like a prison and that’s the last thing a mentally unwell person needs. 

I am thankful for one of the ladies who worked in the recreational room who treated everyone with so much respect. 

I had a couple of staff members who had a heart to care and help people, but it seemed the majority were cold and clinical.
