I called an ambulance for my Nanna, as she was feeling suicidal, she got brought into Midland ED. I went there initially, the volunteers were helpful and the nursing staff seemed genuinely concerned for me and my Nanna. She was under the influence of alcohol at the time, so she could not be properly assessed. As I was emotionally drained from the day I took that opportunity to go home and have a rest myself. I was told by the nursing staff that may Nanna would not be allowed to go home until she was sober and properly assessed. I asked that I be phoned when she had been assessed & /or if she was to be discharged. I phoned this morning to check on her and she had been discharged the night before at about 9pm, no one had informed me. I had called an ambulance because she was suicidal and no family members were informed that she had gone home - I think this is very disappointing. I was never asked for collateral history, in fact the doctors pretty much ignored me when speaking with my Nanna. Her case has been multi-factorial and there were things they needed to know that she would not have been forthcoming in saying. I have been through the GP previously and it was on their advice that I called the ambulance, because the GP said she needed to be assessed. I feel let down by the system. A simple phone call to me (her next of kin) to discuss this matter prior to her discharge would have gone a long way.
