My mother was under the care of the Yarra Valley Health District Nurses for a period of just over a year.
During this time she built up a rapport with them and looked forward to their daily visits. It put my mind at ease to know that these wonderful ladies always treated my mother with the utmost care and respect. Whenever they had concerns regarding her health or any other issue they always kept contact with me and several times, brought things to my attention that I had not noticed. Their empathy and professionalism cannot be rated high enough.
So it distresses me that I have heard that the District Nursing service may be cut from Eastern Health. To my eyes and experience, they perform a vital function in the community. What are the people of 'The Valley' to do without them? I know that without their care, my mother would not have been able to stay in her own home as long as she did. I believe that Eastern Health should be ashamed, if this is the way they treat the community.
I am truly disgusted with the organisation if this is what is to happen.
