"My breast assessment"

About: Royal Perth Hospital / Breast Cancer Care & Support

(as the patient),

I felt nervous about the assessment procedure in the initial consultation, I felt was not very professional, as she approached each patient in the waiting room to talk about our procedure. I would have thought that would have been done individually and privately. After I had my biopsy she proceeded to follow me into the change room where I was getting dressed to go home, where she told me I was not going to like what she had to say about my nervous state - as I was being selfish to my husband. Not what I wanted to hear from a professional. I was really upset and just wanted to get home. Otherwise all the staff and doctors were wonderful.

Dear delphinuspw56,

I apologise for the unpleasant experience you had at what must have been a very stressful time for you. Without more information, it is difficult for me to comment here, however, what you describe is not the level of care or service that we strive to provide. So that we might learn from your experience and improve, the Head of Department for this area would like to invite you to contact her to discuss this further. Dr Wylie is contactable on 9224 2126. Again, I apologise for your experience and thank you for taking the time to provide us with your feedback.

Yours sincerely

Dr Lesley Bennett
