"Emergency department"

About: Frankston Hospital / Emergency Department

(as the patient),

At 3:30 am woke up with spasms around the heart and neck.  The wife had just come out of ED for another matter so was exhausted. My heart rate was erratic, but everything subsided after about 5 minutes. I ended up driving myself to the Frankston Hospital after this all had subsided, as wanted to get checked. In hindsight I should have called an ambulance. About 4:30 I got emergency at Frankston Hospital, there were a few patients there and about 5 medical staff out the front having coffees at a night coffee van.

I explained my symptoms and were concerned that it may be heart related to the triage staff. No obs were done and I was told it would be a long wait.

I observed 2 staff members saying, where have all the patients gone and it had died off.

I approached the triage again around 5:30 am, saying I was concerned and should I go to Peninsula Private. They said we will get to you and it probably won't be much longer.

Another 2 people got admitted who came after me and obs were done.

At around 6 am I discharged myself after speaking with my wife, as I was concerned that even my blood pressure and heart rate was not checked upon coming in or at any stage after this.

I have since seen the local nurses who were both horrified that some basic checks were not even done - ECG and blood tests done sent off urgently.

Did I need to book an ambulance to be treated differently?
