Bass Coast Hospital Wonthaggi - Child Birth
I am writing this as the father as my partner is still in the care of the hospital after a C-Section. This was the birth of our second child and our second C-Section. The thought of another C-Section gave me shivers, but the way the team handled it was exceptional. Advice and guidance was always given by Obstetricians Dr Sam and Richard and they always made me and my partner feel like all was under control. They allowed my partner to have the best opportunity to give a natural birth, as it was her wish to do so. They respected her needs all the way through, they listened and took the time to ensure all questions were answered. I have never experienced doctors giving this amount of time and attention that these guys did! But when it came time to make a decision with regards to a C-Section they did not force it upon us or rush a decision, but presented us with the information to make an informed decision and worked us through it.
Now where the exceptional occurred: (Docs you did a good job, but these guys are the winners);
The Midwives:
I'm at home with our eldest daughter writing this and feel absolutely comfortable that my partner is getting the care she needs. She's actually getting care way above what was expected. Our first birth in a Metropolitan hospital with high tech gizmos and gadgets, fancy rooms, etc, etc, was in my opinion, a shocker! I can say that now after experiencing the team at Wonthaggi.
Jess - Nightshift
Well what can I say superstar, she was great, so much attention and care shown to my partner and the newborn. The attention is genuine she really cares about the needs of everyone, including me. Jess took the time to sit and talk to me, not just about what was happening but about us, and it really helped the nerves, especially sitting and waiting before/after the operation. We both really can't thank her enough!!!
Chantelle - Afternoon/Day Shift
I could just copy and paste the above!!! She really is a worker bee. Chantelle had all the needs of our baby and my partner in hand. She was/is always there to give my partner a break with the little one, so she could rest/sleep/recuperate nothing was ever a hassle or too much trouble.
Janet - Day Shift
(File Tab Copy/Paste all the above) The mother hen, confidence, experience, she makes the whole new baby thing look easier than a stroll in the park. My partner was amazed at how effortless it was for Janet to wrap the baby and get them settled. Just pure experience that makes you feel in the safest hands. Janet was very keen to read my partners birthing plan and ensure that it was actioned.
The whole team were ace really, way beyond our expectations. If I was paying to go private these guys are probably better than I would expect. In my opinion, you couldn't get the treatment and care privately because the Wonthaggi team do actually care! You're not just a patient you're a person and they seem to really enjoy what they do.
There are things that need to be improved and I believe the main one is these guys need more staff or a big pay rise! Now they already do an exceptional job, but that's because their dedication to their work is almost faultless (no one's perfect). They are back and forth, patient to patient they don't seem to stop! This itself sings wonders for them as the care level never dropped, maybe they can keep it up forever, but people burn out....don't let this happen! You have a championship winning team in the Wonthaggi Midwifes!
Thank you so much Bass Coast. I did have my doubts being a country hospital, but now I wouldn't want another child anywhere else! We've had the best possible start.
