We recently attended Busselton Hospital after our child fell off a swing at a playground and injured their head. My child was then transferred to Bunbury Hospital. While I was waiting with my other child at Bunbury Hospital in the patient lounge, a lady who worked in the hospital offered us sandwiches and bikkies to go with our coffee. We took the food back to my spouse and injured child in their room. Afterwards, I went back to the patient lounge with my other child. Two nurses came into the lounge area and asked what I was doing there with a young child. They told me that I wasn’t supposed to be there. I got the impression that they were accusing me of something inappropriate by being with a young child, when in fact it is my child and we were just waiting in the room. I was obviously outraged by this. I told them to get lost and that they can get security or call the police if they want.
I tried to find out the nurse’s name that made the accusations so that I could make a complaint but the second nurse refused to give me the name. I then found out that the same nurse had told the Emergency Department doctor that we had stolen the sandwiches and biscuits. I just felt devastated to be treated like this – like I was being inappropriate and a thief. I would like the lady who offered us the sandwiches to be identified and the truth put straight.
