"Unacceptable staff attitude"

About: Sydney / Sydney Eye Hospital / Emergency Department

(as a relative),

My parent has just had cataract surgery and went to the Sydney Eye Hospital Emergency Department to get their eye dressing removed. The nurse who attended to us was, in my opinion, very rude. They would, in my opinion, scream at my parent if they didn’t do what the nurse asked or when they misunderstood. They were very unpleasant to deal with. The nurse would tell us, this is how you do it and I would just nod my head. And then they screamed at me, do you understand?, two times like as if I didn’t understand English. And later my other parent wanted to confirm if we’re supposed to use like a fabric tissue or just normal ones, and they asked the nurse again who screamed back, I told you before - Tissue! I think it’s so rude to treat someone like that! I hope this story gets read.

Thank you for sharing your recent experience in relation to your mothers care at Sydney Hospital/Sydney Eye Hospital. I am disappointed to hear that your experience was not satisfactory, especially the feedback in relation to your encounter with nursing staff. It is my expectation that all staff deliver care in a compassionate and respectful manner. Your concerns and feedback will be discussed with the nursing team and the Department so that we can reflect on your experience.
