"Lack of Communication/Organisation"

About: PathWest Mirrabooka Collection Centre

(as the patient),

I called in recently to book a routine test to coincide with my 28th week of pregnancy, and was given an appointment in Mirrabooka.

I realised recently that the day of the booked appointment was a public holiday, so called to check that this was correct. I was surprised that my call was transferred to the Osborne Park Clinic. It was then explained that calls were being transferred to this centre due to an accident at Mirrabooka, which had caused structural damage, resulting in the temporary closure of the centre.

I explained my reason for calling, and was told that they were not in fact not open on the public holiday, and that the date must not have been crossed off the calendar when I was given an appointment for that day.

I asked whether this would have been communicated to me, and also, how they were going about informing patients that there appointments were not going to be held at Mirrabooka since the accident. I was told, the phones are being diverted here. When I pushed at asking whether they would be informing patients of location changes etc, I was told the same thing, the phones are being diverted here.

I may have been misinformed, but I was left with the impression that I'd have been allowed to turn up at Mirrabooka for my appointment, to a closed centre, on a day I should never have been able to book an appointment for! This isn't good enough - I believe there should be mechanisms in place to prevent booking errors like this, and to quickly communicate issues and location changes with clients.

I now have an appointment booked for another Pathwest Centre, hopefully, but my confidence in the efficiency and professionalism of the organisation is in question. I worry about other patients who won't call in advance.

Dear Aurigarn74,

I am disappointed to hear of the inconvenience caused to you by the temporary closure of our Mirrabooka collection rooms. This unfortunate incident has caused us to divert our patients to alternate collection centres. After attending the incident I personally oversaw that all booked patients were contacted to rearrange appointments. I do apologise if you were overlooked during this process.

Can I please ask if you could contact our Specimen Collection Manager, Mrs Elaine Toogood on 6457 4514 so that we can get some further details from you in order to investigate and improve our service.

We thankyou for taking the time to provide this feedback on our service.

Kind regards,
