My 94 year old father wanted to remain in the community where he had lived from the age of 2 years. Although an aged care facility is available in the local hospital the large demand for this fantastic service meant this was not an option for my father. My brother and I decided to support Dad to live independently in his community for as long as possible.
During this time the staff at the hospital provided ongoing support for both my Dad and myself. There was never a question that went unanswered nor advice not offered no matter what hour of the day. All treatment offered was done with Dad's wishes in mind. Through the 6 months that I lived with Dad, I felt part of a community, supported and acknowledged and this was despite me not living there for nearly 40 years. Dad's passing was achieved with dignity and independence.
I can't express the gratitude I feel for the staff of the Kununoppin Hospital and Medical Practice for their support, kindness and commitment to my Father. Thank you does not seem enough.
