"Doctor missed my spouse's brain tumour"

About: Halls Creek Hospital

(as a carer),

We have been residents of Halls Creek for some time and have attended Halls Creek Hospital for medical assistance. My spouse has attended for symptoms of tiredness over this period. Recently we attended the surgery for an appointment as we had noticed my spouse was deteriorating.

A particular doctor took my spouse's blood pressure and informed us that everything was ok. The doctor did nothing but complain about many things including not having much sleep. Previously I had seen this doctor and the doctor has complained about how much tax they have to pay.

The doctor needs to listen and have empathy. I stated that a few months ago a referral was done for MRI but we had not heard anything. The doctor stated if we want to be part of the public system we need to put up with it.  The doctor then referred us for a scan and again stated it would be weeks.  We followed up on the referral and scan at a different hospital and were able to arrange for the following day where my spouse has been flown to Perth by Royal Flying Doctor Service with a brain tumour.

I feel that Halls Creek Hospital is in need of doctors who care about the patient and are not only here for the money. This is a matter of urgency as I believe we would not be the only patient that has received inadequate medical attention. We are not a third world country and we should be able to receive adequate medical attention. Our lives have been turned upside down and this could have been a very different situation.

Hello zulunq76,

I am sorry to hear about your spouse's diagnosis and the journey they have been on. I am also sorry to hear about your experiences with Halls Creek Hospital.

We would hope that our doctors are caring and empathetic towards our patients and their needs and will do everything we can to ensure this in the future.

We are currently investigating your experience and would be able to do this better if we had more information about your spouse and the timing of the appointments.

I would be grateful if you could assist us with his by contacting me directly on 0408 944 305.

Thank you,

Keda Bond
