I recently went into Osborne Park Hospital (OPH) to have a complete replacement of my hip. The other hip is due to be done later this year.
From the moment I arrived on OPH Campus, the feeling was positive. The scale was right, the natural environment looked inviting and I have never met a nicer, more competent receptionist as I came through the main entrance.
I was guided to Ward 6 and a friendly nurse was waiting to show me to my bed. I did the necessary undressing and dressing and was attended to by yet another warm nurse who gave me instructions about what was to happen and when.
Very competent nurses and anaesthetists came and went and did what they needed to do before I was taken into theatre. I was wheeled in, injected in the spine and had an excellent afternoon nap to be awoken in my ward bed some two hours later.
The help with my post-op was first rate; I left and have had very good home treatment since then.
I have been fortunate in that I have not suffered a great deal of pain and my 'wound' was nowhere near the size or the severity that I had imagined. This is due, in no small measure, to a genius surgeon by the name of David. I owe him and all of the OPH staff a huge debt of gratitude and thank you all from the bottom of my heart!!
I await my left hip op later this year.
