"A day in Emergency when you're terminally ill"

My spouse has terminal cancer and was told by their surgeon to present for admission via the hospital Emergency Department (ED) for a palliative procedure. We got there at 12.30 pm, triaged quickly, asked to wait on the seats. Although a nurse came out and my spouse had BP, heart rate, blood test, CT scan over the next hours, my spouse was still sitting on hard plastic seats at 8.00 pm. There was no information from anyone about what was happening.

When I enquired at the desk, I found out my spouse had been admitted under their surgeon to the ward - so why was my spouse still on the ED plastic seats, and why had no nursing staff checked how my spouse was going? My spouse was in tears, usually, at home, they would be asleep by 7.00 pm. My spouse has a lot of pain, so I'd used the medications that we'd brought with us from home, plus the essential medications my spouse needs for their digestion so they can get through the night. After I asked at the desk, a nurse quickly whisked my spouse into fast track, but then had a go at my spouse for self-administering medications as an inpatient - as if anyone else was caring!
