"No fuel vouchers available"

About: Patient Assisted Travel Scheme - WACHS Goldfields

(as the patient),

We have to travel from Kalgoorlie to Perth for specialist services, approximately 700 km each way.  Fuel vouchers are able to be obtained from PATS, however, more often than not they do not have any in. I went in there last week and they had run out and said I would have to pay for the fuel and claim it back. I went in again the day before I had to drive to Perth and again they still didn't have any. This has happened a number of times for me. The cost of travelling to Perth is high enough covering the accommodation cost over the small amount PATS provides, and a lot of the time we have to pay for the fuel up front as well. Sometimes I have to borrow the fuel money because I just can't afford it and I can't get the fuel vouchers. It can put considerable stress on us. They know that the demand is high, can't they just make sure they order enough in?

Dear Frustrated6430,

Thank you for bringing this situation to my attention. It is so important that fuel cards are available to assist people in attending specialist appointments. From your correspondence, it appears this situation has occurred multiple times and I have asked the business manager to ensure the process for the supply of these cards be reviewed and improved to ensure the risk of this situation reoccurring is avoided.
