I recently stayed at Wyla in the Withdrawal Unit. I have a hearing impairment. Everything was verbalised which made things challenging for me. I read the 'General Rules' information carefully so that I would be informed. The time stated, in the handout, for groups starting was 8.30 am. The following morning I made sure that I was going to be ready for 8.30 am but was told to hurry up because group started at 8.00 am. I asked about the brochure and was told it was wrong and hadn't been updated. This was not helpful for me.
I felt that it was confusing having the detox and rehab clients together in the one space. There weren't any timetables showing clearly which group was for which cohort of people.
I couldn't have a shower on the first night as I was unable to access a towel. It seemed problematic due to a key issue. The towels were locked up so access seemed difficult. When I expressed my concerns to the case manager (when I finally got to see them) they said that the staff are just lazy.
My experience was that the service is badly mismanaged.
I felt that the experience was totally frustrating. Twice I was told to be ready to leave the next day and I hadn't even seen a case manager. The staff all seemed tense and it wasn't a pleasant environment to be in. Other clients were asking for my help as they also wanted to provide feedback.
