My Dad spent the last week of his earthly life in the Palliative Care Room at the Collie Hospital. The room is such a blessing as it is large enough to accommodate many family members, it is comfortable with 2 couches, an armchair, and a dining table. It is private and has a pleasant view of the grounds, with the trees and birds. It was nice to see the magpies playing outside the window. There is a kitchen directly across the room so you can easily and quickly make a cuppa or heat up some food, while still being close by. The hospital kitchen provided meals for my Mum which allowed her to stay with Dad the entire time. They also provided soup and bread for other family members.
I would like to thank the Collie Hospital for providing all this, as well as the staff who were all lovely and caring. A special thank you to Matt who was so lovely in the way he cared for my Dad (even massaging his arms and legs!) - you could really tell that he genuinely cares. He also took the time to answer questions and to explain processes and give us options. Another special thank you also to Dr Marelene who was just beautiful with my Dad in the way that she interacted with him - again, you could tell that she truly cared about my Dad as a person. God bless you all.
