"Busy Emergency Department"

About: Bunbury Hospital / Emergency Department

(as a relative),

I took my child to the Bunbury Emergency Department (ED) at the request of General Practitioner (GP). On arrival the clerk noted that I was holding an envelope and told us to sit on the red chairs so we did.

The triage nurse was busy taking the waiting patients individually into a room to assess. It took 45 minutes for my child to be triaged. At no point in the 45 minutes did anyone speak to us. No one asked to see the GP letter, or ask what my child's name was or why we were there.

The ED was busy but I think some basic information should have been collected on our arrival.

This was also the case for all the other patients I saw coming into the ED.

When seen by the ED doctor we were asked whether we had thought about seeing a GP regarding the issue.

The GP referral letter was attached to the clip board he was holding.

Dear patient987,

Thank you for posting on Patient Opinion. I would really like the opportunity for us to investigate the things you have raised as they don’t meet the expectations on the service we deliver. Communication from GPs is important and valued by the treating teams and I will make sure the feedback you have provided is shared with the team. The importance of this information being reviewed will also be reinforced. It does appear that we could learn some lessons and improve our service and I would appreciate it if you could call our Customer Liaison Officer on 9722 1521. This will enable us to get your details and further investigate the concerns you have raised.

I do hope your child is feeling better and thanks again for posting on Patient Opinion.
