"Emergency waiting room"

About: St George Hospital / Emergency Department

(as a carer),

Last night I took my spouse to St George Hospital Emergency Department (ED) after vomiting constantly for over approximately 4 hours. After barely answering initial questions and showing ID at the reception, we were called by the nurse which gave my spouse a pill and asked to be seated. However, before they could even ingest the pill my spouse fainted in front of the reception and the only help we got was a chair, after a while the nurse gave them an injection (of unknown medication) and asked us to wait on the green chairs. We waited in green chairs (my spouse, my young child and myself) for about 3 hours with no information on when they can receive treatment, and when we asked the staff they informed we will be waiting approximately for another 3 hours, so we decided to go somewhere else.

Not the best experience in a hospital.

Dear capellahw68,

Thank you for taking the time to share your recent experience at our Emergency Department. I was extremely disappointed to hear your story.

I would like our Patient Experience Manager to review your experience and I ask that you contact Ms Kath Helling, on 9113 2687 or by email at SESLHD-STG-ConsumerFeedback@health.nsw.gov.au Of course, I would completely respect your wishes should you choose not to make contact, but please be assured that I would like to follow this up.

Once again, I thank you for taking the time to share your feedback about your experience. Your feedback gives us the opportunity to identify areas for improvement to reduce the likelihood of a similar occurrence in the future.

Kind regards

Leisa Rathborne
