"Disappointed in blood test experience"

About: PathWest Narrogin Regional Hospital Collection Centre

(as the patient),

Went to the new facility inside Narrogin Hospital which is a beautiful area. Sat and waited to be seen. When the pathology nurse came to the door to call who was next they did not smile, the nurse was abrupt and seemed impatient. I went into the room and had my blood taken which I am always nervous about and in the past, at the old centre, the staff were friendly, had a chat and told you what they were doing etc.

One nurse who asked my details was pleasant, but the one who took my blood was just short and sharp and I didn't enjoy the experience at all. If you are going to work in an area like that I expect that you would be friendly, caring and make my experience pleasant. I did not feel this way and was disappointed. I am not confident that I will return here in the future to have a blood test if that particular nurse is there working.

Hi afl fan,

Thank you for taking the time to post your experience on Patient Opinion. Firstly, let me say how sorry I was to hear that you had a bad experience at our Narrogin Collection Centre. I appreciate that having a blood test can cause anxiety in some patients and a friendly face and manner can help alleviate that anxiety.

Secondly, I will pass your comments on to the Manager at that laboratory to remind all the phlebotomists there to have a more caring attitude when they are dealing with patients. If you prefer I could be more specific and ask you to call the lab manager on 9881 0481 and let her know of your experience so they can counsel the phlebotomist on their 'bedside' manner.

Thirdly, PathWest always welcomes feedback such as yours so we can improve our service to the many patients we serve each day.

Yours sincerely

Martin Taylor
