I spent nearly three weeks in Sydney Eye Hospital as a patient. I was amazed by the level of care and kindness I have received from nurses and doctors working there. They were very attentive and always made sure I was feeling comfortable in this stressful time. I was treated like a human being with feelings and not another 'case'. I am really grateful to all nurses who looked after me. I would like to also acknowledge the hard work of kitchen staff and cleaning ladies who were making sure I wasn't hungry and my bathroom was clean.
What I found distressing was moving my bed from one room to another a couple of times which I guess is normal in hospital really, but maybe four times is a little too many. As I dealt with a couple of doctors at the time I wasn't sure who was specializing in what area of medicine (except the Eye Doctor) and I guess knowing that would help me to address my questions accurately.
The only thing I really didn't like was random people from a church coming to my room and asking about my condition. I'm not religious and I found this situation offensive and disturbing. I think it's highly unacceptable that religion agitators (of any religion) are let into the hospital wards to take advantage of patients, especially of those really sick, who disclose their health issues as they are scared to say no or sometimes are convinced they are talking to health practitioners.
Once again a big thanks to everyone who made me feel welcome and made sure I was doing fine!
