I was recently in the Sydney Eye Hospital for a short stay in a room with other patients. This was despite being a private patient and (I believe) private rooms being available!
Generally the staff were lovely and caring to me. Occasionally I had to remind them when my medication was due and at one point I believe it had been marked off but not given.
I understand that they are very busy and some patients are very demanding. However, I did not appreciate being woken in the middle of the night by someone who had wet the bed - sad really, but the fact that there was urine all over the floor in my area the next morning was not acceptable - mopped up by my bath towel until the cleaner came several hours later.
Visiting hours are 10 am to 8 pm. I was amazed one morning that the ward was overrun by waiting patients and I believe their families hours before visiting time - eight people in total and before breakfast, ablutions, etc. There is a waiting room which was empty! Even the next morning, two visitors arrived again before visiting hours. Visiting hours are restricted for the rest and recovery of patients, and in my opinion, the times should be adhered to.
