"Hospital patient telephone system."

About: Angliss Hospital

(as a friend),

As the next of kin for an inpatient, I and many other friends of the patient consistently tried over a 5 day period to contact the inpatient. Every time when the call connects to the Ward, a staff member attempts to put the call through to the patient however it fails. An administrative staff member on the Ward informed me that there was no hands-free phone available for patients due to infection control reasons and that they couldn’t help me if the patient did not have a mobile.  In this instance the patient does not have a mobile phone.

It is most unsatisfactory that families and friends can’t make contact with an inpatient. It is not always possible for people to visit every day due to work and family commitments and if the hospital is located some distance away.

Dear Kiwi

Thank you so much for taking the time to share comments regarding your experience with trying to contact your next of kin when they were an inpatient at Angliss Hospital. I am very sorry we were not able to make this work and for you to connect with them.

I had not heard this was an issue before and now that I am aware, we can see what can be done to improve this situation. To support us doing this and to obtain specific detail regarding your experience and this issue, could I please ask if you could make contact with Patient Relations Advisors in the Eastern Health Centre for Patient Experience either by calling 1800 EASTERN or by emailing feedback@easternhealth.org.au

If you choose to call please be aware that it is possible that the Patient Relations Advisors may be on another call at the time you ring and if so you will be invited to leave a message so they can return your call.

Thank you so much again and if you choose not to make contact, I will ask for this to be investigated so we can see what can be done.

Kind regards

David
