"My stay"

About: Hornsby Ku-ring-gai Hospital

(as the patient),

I was recently conveyed to the hospital as a result of an motor vehicle accident. From the outset the treatment I received from NSW Ambulance, the Emergency Department and the Ward once I was admitted overnight for observation was second to none. All I can say is thank you and it is greatly appreciated.

Two situations that I feel need to be seriously looked at.

1. The food. I understand it is a pre-packed service and needs to cater for a variety of things but I believe it is well below second rate. Just try the shepherd's pie, I feel that not only does look unappetising, but the carrots - words cannot explain how disgusting they are. I believe the fruit was also below par. The one banana I had, only a quarter was consumed because the rest was so badly bruised, and the only orange I attempted to have was not fresh and very sour.

2. Communication between medical and administration staff. I believe communication in the medical fraternity needs a lot of work. The first I knew I was to be admitted was when the Administration Officer in emergency approached me with the forms. No doctor or nurse had indicated to me that this was happening, which put the Administration Officer in a very awkward position, and caused me quite a lot of concern because I did not know if there was something serious that had been found. The Administration Officer quite rightly left and organised a doctor to see me, but even then it was another 45 minutes for this to happen, and all this time I was getting more worried even though I was asking for a doctor to see me.

This is the most serious point. Communication is the key with anything and is raised so this sort of unnecessary worry does not have to occur with anyone else.
