"Food Packaging is over the top"

About: St George Hospital

(as the patient),

In this day and age aren’t we supposed to be reducing plastics? I sat for two days in St. George Hospital. Every meal came with plastic cutlery , orange juice in plastic disposable cups, the trays are all plastic disposable as well. After one day the bin was full of plastic. Why not simply provide one set of cutlery and ask that the patient keep them? Juice could be served from a single jug. I feel it is an incredible amount of senseless plastic waste with every meal.

Shame.

Dear centaurusdc78,

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback.

I can confirm that we are committed to recycling and all our plastic items are fully recyclable. Unfortunately, due to Food Safety regulations we are unable to reuse the same cutlery. Additionally, infection control concerns prevent the use of jugs for the serving of juice.

I do appreciate your feedback and can assure you that we are committed to responsible waste management.

Kind regards

Leisa Rathborne
