"Emergency dept treatment"

About: Cowra District Hospital

(as the patient),

I recently attended the Emergency Dept (ED) of Cowra Hospital in the evening, presenting with a dog bite that occured at approx 20 minutes earlier. The bite was bleeding profusely from my index finger/ first finger and I was attended to by the nurse. I did not see any other person.

The nurse advised me that they would contact the dr on duty by phone. The nurse then left the area however I did hear them talking to someone but was unable to distinguish the conversation. The nurse returned and said the dr will not attend a dog bite because of the bacteria situation.

The nurse put three stiri strips very tightly on my finger and said if I got any swelling go to the Medical Centre tomorrow. I presented to the nurses at a Medical Centre the next afternoon. The nurse removed the strips and noted how tight they were. They rang for a dr who attended and I was given antibiotics and told to return a few days later. On removal of the dressing, the wound has 5 puncture wounds, was badly infected and was drained to assist the infection to come out. I had to return to the ED at the Hospital a few days later for a dressing change and was not looking forward to the experience.
