I recently presented to the Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital Emergency Department after a sporting injury. As someone who has worked in health and hospitals for many years, I was interested to see how my experience 'played out' as both an observer and patient in this familiar environment. I honestly cannot commend, nor thank, the ED team strongly enough for the way that they looked after each other as colleagues, cared for their patients and supported families and friends all the way through the process. The interactions I observed and encountered personally were professional, respectful, compassionate and genuine. In the short period I attended for, I witnessed juggling balls being caught constantly by the team - a respiratory arrest in the waiting area, challenging patients and a queue for triage that headed out the door, a kind act for someone with childcare commitments and (on top of these routine disruptions) a tour group being escorted around! I was seen to promptly through triage to registration to medical care and imaging. I was provided with a clear assessment plan and then prompt management directions afterwards for my injury.
I am feeling very grateful and proud to share this experience as a colleague - recognising we often take for granted the very things that most deserve our gratitude.
Thank you for delivering on your vision - excellence in health care for our community!
