We were travelling around the Goldfields area recently when my spouse suffered a reaction to recent radiation therapy. We have always been instructed to attend the nearest Emergency Department (ED) if any problems occurred post-treatment. Fortunately we were close to Kalgoorlie and arrived at the ED in the morning.
From the moment we stepped through the doors we felt that we were treated with respect and professionalism by the reception staff, nursing coordinators, ED Doctor and speech therapist. The communication between Kalgoorlie hospital and Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital was efficient, prompt and involved all the team working together to provide the treatment required. We were able to leave by the afternoon to continue our journey feeling reassured that we were safe and the issue had been resolved. We are sure that negative comments about government hospitals must be demoralising for everyone including patients who are often left wondering whether they are receiving best practice care. However, judging by our experience we can only thank everyone in ED most sincerely for the care we received. Unfortunately we didn't think to get the names of everyone who helped us but rest assured you are not forgotten.
