"Overnight stay experience"

About: Peter James Centre

(as the patient),

My experience at Peter James Centre (PJC) has shocked me after the high quality of all staff at other hospitals I have attended.

I’ve woken up to hear a nurse yelling at a patient because I believe in their opinion, that patient should not have taken the initiative to clean up after themselves and has made a mess, causing the nurse more work. The nurse was, in my opinion, very angry and they let the patient know, many times and in a very loud and angry manner, that they had been (in their opinion) badly behaved and impatient.

Apart from the horrible indignity to this person, I feel it was a totally inappropriate experience to be inflicted on the rest of the ward in the quiet early hours of the morning. My fear in reporting this behaviour is that if addressed with the nurse I believe they will continue to berate patients in a nasty manner but will just lower their volume so they are not heard by others.

Dear P-atient,

Thank you so much for sharing these comments regarding your experience at Peter James Centre. I’m sorry your experience was not as positive as we all would like.

I note you have already made contact with the Patient Relations Advisors in the Eastern Health Centre for Patient Experience. A review has already been commissioned and a response will be provided to you as soon as this has concluded.

Thank you again and I trust we will be back in contact with you shortly.

Kind regards

David
