"Changing the category of my tumour"

About: Hervey Bay Hospital

(as the patient),

I attended Hervey Bay Hospital recently. The appointment was in Clinics in the afternoon. There I was told I have a tumour in the prostate and I was a category 1 by a staff member. I've had an MRI scan that showed this.

As it was category 1, I was told I will need a biopsy so a pre-med was done and was told 3 weeks and a phone call would be coming to see the anaesthetist.

I saw a senior clinician briefly, who asked if I had any questions. I answered no because the previous staff member had already informed me about what was involved.

I had seen the senior clinician a year previous and they asked me for a large sum of money as a donation to a different hospital. As I said to the senior clinician at the time, I haven't got that sort of money.

So, I have all the things I need for the procedure to go ahead. I then received a phone call from the hospital and I'm thinking I've got an appointment. But now I was told that the surgeon is fully booked out until early next year and that I'm a category 4. I believe I'm being pushed back for only one reason and it's written in this letter.

This is a life or death situation and I would like to see how backlogged this senior clinician really is.
