"Diligent care and cheerfulness by Broome Hospital staff"

About: Broome Health Campus / High Dependency Unit

(as the patient),

I am an older resident of Melbourne, Victoria who recently travelled to Broome, W. A. for a holiday. Within days of arrival, I developed early symptoms of a lung infection which I felt was not handled well by a local clinic, resulting in my being admitted to the Broome Hospital with advanced pneumonia, including a high temperature and low blood oxygen levels.

I was transferred immediately to their High Dependency unit - essentially Intensive Care - where I remained for nearly four days. The performance of the medical staff was truly amazing in stabilizing my temperature and increasing my blood oxygen level, which by the time of admission had fallen to a dangerously low level.

Obviously, I was extremely worried about the situation as I was having great difficulty in breathing and was aware that I was in a very remote part of the country.

I wish to specifically nominate the following doctors - Drs. Sasha, David and Alex, and nursing staff including Sara, Eliza, Jo, Katie, Jess, Gemma, Renee, Emma and Melissa.

All contributed magnificently in aiding my recovery through their diligent care and cheerfulness. As a general comment I am a private patient but now have the utmost respect for the public health system after this event.

Dear hydrahm76,

Thank you for writing to share your experience of care in the Broome Hospital High Dependency Unit. I hope that you are now home in Melbourne and recovering well from what sounds like a very serious illness. A severe pneumonia can be very worrying indeed.

We are proud of the diligent care that you were given by the team at Broome Hospital and have forwarded your positive feedback to the doctors and nurses you have specifically mentioned in your feedback. While all of our staff strive to do their best every day, it is nevertheless delightful for them to be recognised for their efforts. Thank you for making their day by acknowledging them personally.

Kind regards

Sue
